David R. Williamson, Sports Attorney and Founding Partner of Wilmel Sport

David Williamson, Sports Attorney for Wilmel Sports (princesdailyjournal)David Williamson is a sports attorney and founding partner of Wilmel Sport.

David began his legal career as a personal injury attorney, alongside his founding partner Angel Melendez, whom he met through school. His reason for becoming a lawyer is that he saw too many poor quality lawyers in the courtroom, during his time as a social worker. And as a result, he challenged himself to become a better lawyer by going to Suffolk Law School and start his own practice. But it would not be until the launch of the Men’s League Soccer in the US (1996) that he and his partner incorporated the sports management side to their firm.

As a sports attorney, representing soccer players from all over the world, he wakes up every morning at 5:30 am to reach out to international players, coaches, and general managers via Skype. His work includes contract negotiations; sponsorship deals; and endorsement deals. One course that he suggests law school students to take is Professional Responsibility.

As an adjunct professor at Suffolk University–teaching Business, Ethics & Law–he teaches his students that doing things the right way on day one is so vital in his line of work.

“We do it right; we do it ethically. We don’t need more lawyers, we need more lawyers with good ethics”

Professional Responsibility, he says, will carry you through out your career as a lawyer. So take it very seriously. And his biggest advice to all law school students is to get out and hustle–but legitimately.

Currently he is writing a book called, “The Legitimate Hustle” which he explains how hustling is a part of business and life. However, when hustling is not done legitimately,  people then find themselves in deep trouble. He says everybody understands “the hustle” but not everyone understands “the legitimate hustle.” Furthermore, he tells law school students to get much experience as you can and be prepared to volunteer your time–whether it be in the sports industry or collegiate programs. Colleges, he says, has a huge compliance department–so he suggest to start there.

Being an attorney in the world of sports, he says, is a very good lucrative business.

Weekly Spiritual Digest: Be Golden! Let the Fire Refine Your Faith!

So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.

(1 Peter 1:6, 7 NLT)

This verse came to me on May 18th, 2014, when I was listening to a word of God from my pastor Jaime Perdomo at my church, La Iglesia Cristiana Nueva Vida. My Pastor, preached to me and to the congregation (in Spanish) on how our faith is like gold–but far more precious.

At first I could not fully understand his words, but when he so passionately repeated, over and over, on how necessary it was to put our faith over the fire–the trials and tribulations–so it can become Gold in Christ, I was totally floored. And it was at that moment that I finally understood his sermon and God’s plan in my life. For the first time, everything became clear:

The many fires in my life (or the trials and tribulations) were not there to torture me. The fires in my life were there to REFINE my faith, so it can BECOME GOLDEN–so I can become strong and pure in Christ.

Thank you Pastor Jaime for reminding of God’s plan, for showing me that the fires in our life are there to refine and purify my faith.

So this week and beyond, see the fire (or trial and tribulation) in your life for what it is: a tool which you can use to refine your faith and Be Golden in God’s Eyes!

Sunday Praise: Your Faith is Like Gold! (Pastor Jaime Perdomo)

Weekly Spiritual Digest: Living By The Spirit’s Power

So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses.

When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God. But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another. (‭Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭16-26‬ NLT)

Whenever I am lost or confused of God’s plan for my life, I will read this verse. The power of the Holy Spirit will never be bound by any law because it is the law–and there is no guilt when you let the Holy Spirit guide your life versus the spirit of sin.

Recognize what is clean and what is dirty. Knowing what you want from life will help you make a clear decision as to what spirit you want to be guided by.

So this week, choose the Holy Spirit and let it guide you to peace and happiness.

Weekly Spiritual Digest: Lead By Example and Live a Quiet Life

Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before. Then people who are not Christians will respect the way you live, and you will not need to depend on others.

–1 Thessalonians 4:11-12

You can’t save everybody! Nor can you force people to respect what you believe in–that right belongs to Jesus Christ. It is why I strongly believe that people frown upon the Christian religion today–especially when fellow believers carry sinister picket signs.

Talk with your feet, instead of your mouth; you’d be surprise how many people will listen to your actions not your words. And mind your own business; your faith does not require you to be the NSA!

Meet The Candidates: Jeff McCormick Independent Candidate Running for Massachusetts Governor

image (1)Meet Jeff McCormick. With over twenty years of experience in building innovative companies in the healthcare, education, energy, IT, biotechnology, and environment industry (including the popular Boston Duck Tours), Jeff has proven himself to be a real jobs-creator.

Born in Upstate New York, Jeff was raised in a modest blue-collar family household–where the kitchen was both a play room & a study room. His family, who traces its roots back to Ireland, instilled in him the principles of hard work and sacrifice. It is because of these principles that his family was able to give back so much to Jeff and why he wishes to do the same in the public sector through his problem-solving skills and creativity.

In our interview, we discussed his plans for Massachusetts. When I asked him, “What is the first thing that the people of Massachusetts can expect from you; when you do become governor?” He said that he wanted a top-down analysis of all the state agencies to see where they are (and what areas needs improvement), and to help small business at every corner–which he says is where economic growth comes from.

What makes him unique is the fact that he is running as an Independent. Being an Independent, he says, allows him to not be tied down by special interests and to not be afraid of challenging the status quo.

Today, Jeff continues to lead in his Vice Chair position at Citi Center for Performing Arts and is a four-time Dana-Farber Marathoner. Jeff resides in Boston with his wife Christine and their three children.
