Prince in The City: The New War in Iraq and the Emergence of a New Terrorist Threat ISIS

prince in the city1

On each and every show I don’t just provide you news in the City, but current events around the world–and how they impact you and the world around you. And on this show, I talk about the new war in Iraq and the emergence of a new terrorist threat, ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria)

On June 24th, 2014, the Western world witnessed a new face to terrorism; when terrorist group ISIS conquered a big chunk of northern Iraq. Through its sophistication in technology and social media, as well as its organization in human resources, ISIS was able to downsize the Al-Qaeda threat and put the new Post-Iraqi War government in disarray.

In this talk I did not only break down the new conflict in Iraq, (going back its to its original roots) but point out the complications. If the US and/or its allies were to intervene in Iraq, they could risk a political “blowback”–helping a Shia government that has been suppressing the Sunnis since 2009 (which the Sunnis have now called ISIS their savior).

What is important is the fact that this new threat is real and will affect national and international politics; if this crisis is not dealt with swiftly but most importantly diplomatically. The world cannot turn a blind eye on ISIS!

This radio show was produced in July 2014 by Lauren Culp and MJ, from the UR Business Network, whom also commented on this topic. On this show I also gave tribute to decease baseball Hall of Famer, Tony Gwynn.

Prince in The City Show: Ukraine Crises and President Obama’s Second Term Agenda

Prince in the city

On each and every show, I don’t just provide you news in the City but current events around the world–and how they impact you and the world around you.

On this special segment, I had a full packed discussion on views and ideologies–not just on Foreign Affairs but on President Obama and his second term agenda. Contributing to this lively debate, are Stephen Norman and Nathan Roman (both hosts of their radio talk show “The Business Side of Sports”) and Lindsey Poole, media content manager of UR Business Network.

To start out, we first talked about Foreign Affairs. We talked about the latest developments of the Ukraine Crisis, and analyzed America’s role in the world today–while comparing its strength to Russia’s.

All of us were on the same side when it came to disapproving Putin’s ill-conceived actions behind annexing Crimea. But when we got into domestic affairs, and dived head first into President Obama’s second term agenda, things got really political! Apparently there are two sides to every coin!

In our discussion I asked my guests to grade the President’s current performance on three agenda items for America: Foreign Affairs, the Economy, and Health care. While half of my guests gave the President a solid B and the other half gave no comment or gave the President a grave Incomplete. It goes to show that not everyone will agree with you.

From our discussion you will not only learn interesting facts but interesting opinions–and how those opinions can shape a person’s outlook on life. But no matter what political affiliation you belong to, you have the right to voice your opinions–even if they are polarizing. Each side of the table presented great insight that you wouldn’t otherwise hear from your everyday news television network.

Overall, we can somewhat agree that the President is doing a “good” job in protecting the lives of Americans in the face of terrorism. But we can unanimously agree that he has a lot of work to do before he can restore economic prosperity in our country.

*FYI: In my talk I mentioned GDP to discuss Obama’s current performance on the economy—to see where we were and where we are now. For clarification the actual definition of GDP is “The monetary value of all the finished goods and services produced within a country’s borders in a specific time period, though GDP is usually calculated on an annual basis. It includes all of private and public consumption, government outlays, investments and exports less imports that occur within a defined territory.”

Stephen Norman and Nathan Roman are hosts their very own radio show called, “The Business Side of Sports” where they discuss on what makes sports so profitable. Instead of talking about what’s going on in the playing field, they are more driven on what’s going on in the front office?

Thank you Stephen, Nathan, Lindsay for your opinions and great insight.

Motivation Mondays: Treat Every Misfortune As A Gift

It’s Monday, the beginning of a new week, and you need words of motivation to start your week off right.

This week’s words of motivation: Treat Every Misfortune As A Gift

In this 3 minute TED talk video, we see brand strategist and brain tumor survivor, Stacy Kramer, give a most touching talk of an unlikely gift that changed her life forever. Stacy does not only do a brilliant job in drawing the audience into her story, but questioning their own motives in life.

When I watched the first few minutes of Stacy’s TED talk, I was emotionally drawn into her story; I really wanted to know what was inside that box. What she described to me, and to everyone, was everything that I ever wanted from life–especially eight weeks of doing absolutely nothing. However, it would not be until she opened the box that I (including everyone else) had to take a step back and question my own motives in life–maybe the misfortunes that exists in our own lives are actually gifts in disguise.

“The next time you’re faced with something that’s unexpected, unwanted and uncertain, consider that it just may be a gift.” –Stacy Kramer

So this week, treat every misfortune as a gift no matter how big or small. Stacy’s gift truly altered her life forever; she obtained everything that most people dream for a lifetime. Although I may not want Stacy’s gift in the size of a golf ball, but I do want what comes with it: adoration and rest.

Motivation Monday: Evolve the Art of Storytelling

It’s Monday, the beginning of a new week, and you need words of motivation to start your week off right.

This week’s words of motivation: Evolve the Art of Storytelling

In this 3 minute TED talk video, we see iPad storyteller and entrepreneur, Joe Sabia, give an inspirational talk on the history of storytelling; and how technology was able to advance it thanks to German author, Lothar Megendoffer. Sabia does not only do a phenomenal job of storytelling (detailing each part of his story with powerful visuals), but an excellent job in conveying his point across.

“The art of storytelling has remained unchanged. And for the most part the stories are recycled. But the way humans tell the stories has evolved with pure, and consistent novelty.”

–Joe Sabia

Stories are what keeps the world spinning. And I am so fortunate that I am able to use my writing, and my website, as a platform to share people’s stories across the world via the web.

*I invite all of you to check out my “Interesting People” section and read the amazing stories that I have amassed since I first produced my website to the world!

Thank you Megendoffer for giving me, and the world, the Megendofferitis: to make our stories come to life. If you hadn’t said “Genug ist Genug,” then our stories would have never reached the medium to where it is today.

So this week, evolve the art of storytelling–and catch the Megendofferitis. Instead of sharing your story face to face, grab a phone and video stream your story online and make your story come to life. Utilize social media to make your story (and/or your product’s story) come to life!

Motivation Monday: Don’t Be Afraid To Ask For A “Thank you”

It’s Monday, the beginning of a new week, and you need words of encouragement to start your week off right.

This week’s words of motivation: Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for a “Thank you.”

In this 3 minute TED talk video, we see therapist and life coach, Dr. Laura Trice, give a most interesting muse on the power of these magic words: “Thank You.” And more importantly how we must ask for it even though we may feel embarrassed by it.

While it is virtually impossible to ask for a Thank You from your boss everyday at work, I absolutely agree with Dr. Laura in that we must begin to ask for praises or recognition [Thank You’s] in our own homes. Too many of us feel neglected in our homes; the person that we love either forgets or does not recognize our accomplishments or our presence. Furthermore what is worse is that we are too timid or afraid to ask for praise or recognition.

“The father told everybody else that he was proud of him, but he never told the son. It’s because he didn’t know that his son needed to hear it. So my question is, why don’t we ask for the things that we need?” –Dr Laura Trice

If we are going to promote world peace around the world, then we must start it in our own homes and in our own backyards. A Thank You, can deepen a friendship; repair a bond; and can let a person know how much they are valued.

So this week, when you go home from work today, say Thank You to your loved ones (husband, wife, children, etc.) and let them know how much you appreciate them. And for the loved ones that do not always receive that praise from that special person, practice your assertiveness and do kindly ask for a Thank You.
