Another Tribute to Kobe Bryant–Play The Game, Not the Man

“There’s 30 seconds on the shot clock; your team mates are covered except for you. People are out of their seats, cheering from the stands, and you are separated from the basket by one man. The ball is now in your hands, what do you do? Sometimes we get so caught up with the person in front of us, that we lose site of our goal, which is behind the person. However, its people like Kobe Bryant that reminds us that our eyes should be fixated not on the person but the goal above our heads.”

I just heard the news that my favorite basketball player, Kobe Bryant, became the 3rd all-time leading scorer in NBA history–surpassing the great Micheal Jordan. It is great feats like this that have inspired me to look beyond my opponents and go after my goals in life. So inspired by his abilities–to stun the world by making the impossible look easy–that I actually wrote a post about him (my first post on the WORLD WIDE WEB!).

Watching him weave through 3 guys for a dunk, or making an incredible shot from outside the 3 pt arch with 10 seconds on the shot clock has taught me to never be distracted by the person in-front of you–don’t even look into his eyes. Kobe Bryant is one of those few players that rarely goes toe-to-toe with an obstacle or a player; nonetheless fights or calls out his opponents. He always fixates his eyes to the goal and not the person in front of him. If we all can do that, then we all can accomplish our goals and appreciate life a little more–hating our opponents or letting obstacles keep us away from our goal is not how you play the game. Play the game of Life!

“Thank you Kobe for inspiring me. And congratulations on your latest victory. I am once again glad to see you back on the court–showing the world that an Achilles heel won’t keep you down from playing the game!” –Prince Sefa-Boakye

Motivation Monday: Tie Your Shoes [The Correct Way]!

It’s Monday, the beginning of a new week, and you need words of motivation to start your week off right.

This week’s words of motivation: Tie Your Shoes [The Correct Way]!

In this hilarious TED talk video, we see how one little detail can make all the difference in the world, especially when it comes to a life long skill that has been taught to us when we were little children: tying your shoes.

Terry Moore, founder of the Radius Foundation, is like all of us. We tie our shoes enough times in our livelihood that we do not care or worry about its appearances. But if it wasn’t for Terry’s close eye to detail towards his discomfort of “round nylon shoelaces,” then he would have never gained a lifelong lesson which would ultimately change his life [and others] for the better. Who would’ve thought that his embarrassing moment of not tying his shoes correctly [for 50 some odd years] would be broadcasted on the first ever TED talk video in the world of TED talks?

So this week, and before you walk out the door, Tie Your Shoes [The Correct Way]!

Pay close attention to details, or the little discomforts in your life, because you never know if that detail or discomfort will yield you great knowledge or rewards in the future!

My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” John 10:10 The thief does not make us better or more perfect; therefore we cannot assume that we will receive more blessings from The Lord than the thief. Motivation Monday: Patience

It’s Monday, the beginning of a new week, and you need words of empowerment to start your week off right.

This week’s word of motivation: Patience

In this video we see Reggie Bush, the former All-star Trojan athlete, expressing his struggles as a new recruit on the New Orleans Saints football team–the difficult transition from winning college football championships to not scoring one touchdown in the pro-league.

Like Reggie Bush, we all seem to have a caliber to achieve what we want in life–whether it be graduating with a higher degree or winning trophies. However, we soon realize that we can’t predict everything, and life does happen. Even though it gets us down, it should not serve as an excuse to give up.

Be patient and continue to work hard at your goals. Let me be the first to say that I have fallen many times in my quest of obtaining a job– knowing that my caliber was a college degree. However, once I became patient with myself, and persisted throughout life’s obstacles (never giving up on my goals), I realized that I can utilize my degree and, combine it with my creativity to create something special like: Prince’s Daily Journal.

So Be Patient and Never Give Up–and you too can score a touch down!
