Weekly Spiritual Digest: Finding your Spiritual Gift

ldsliving.com

Now, dear brothers and sisters, regarding your question about the special abilities the Spirit gives us. I don’t want you to misunderstand this. You know that when you were still pagans, you were led astray and swept along in worshiping speechless idols. So I want you to know that no one speaking by the Spirit of God will curse Jesus, and no one can say Jesus is Lord, except by the Holy Spirit.

There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy.

He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have. (1 Corinthians 12:1-11 NLT)

The Book of Corinthians is a letter written by Apostle Paul to help the Christians in Corinth break free from the corruption that was taking place in their homeland. And in doing so, Paul covers a wide variety of topics such as rival factions, incest among believers, public lawsuits between fellow Christians, disorderly conduct, the Lord’s Supper, and the abuses of spiritual gifts in order to show that Christ is the only solution to all of these topics. Throughout his letter, he explains why Jesus’ followers should let Christ shape their lives, beliefs, and values, and why they should not conform to the world around them.

Finding your spiritual gift is something that cannot be found, because only God the Father can choose which gift each person should have. However, what is important is that the same spirit that provides these spiritual gifts (gift of healing, prophesy, wise advice, etc.) also lives inside of you and me.

God works in mysterious ways and he uses us, through the Holy Spirit, to help one another–and to serve his plan. Your spiritual gift is the Holy Spirit that has been given to you by God. The Holy Spirit strengthens your backbone when you are crouched in fear, and gives you guidance when you are lost in the dark.

So this week don’t contemplate on the spiritual gifts that you don’t have. Instead focus on your Holy Spirit–the gift which has been given to you by God–and see where it takes you. It may lead you to post Weekly Spiritual blogs!
